Basketball....It's What We Do!

For outsiders looking in, Kentucky Basketball Fans seem a little crazy. And they're right...we are. We celebrate every win and mourn each and every loss. I'm not sure if there is really an explanation as to why the state shuts down when there is a game, other than this. Kentucky isn't really know for a lot. People from other states assume that we are a bunch of rednecks from the foothills of the mountains who walk around barefoot (but we totally are not). But basketball is something that we've always had....and something that we've always been good at. 7 NCAA titles and counting.....

Today, we sealed the deal and we are off to the Final Four in the Big (BLUE) Easy. It's sort of ironic for me. Nearly 17 years ago my family moved away from the Commonwealth of Kentucky and relocated to New Orleans. And now, nearly two decades later, I have the chance to see my cats play in the Final Four for the second year in a row. It's really funny how life comes full circle sometimes. Had my family never relocated to Louisiana, I may not have this opportunity to see my boys do what they do best. Also, as far as I have been away over the years from the place I still consider "home", watching KY basketball has always been something that has kept me close to home.

For a long time, it has been on my bucket list to see the Cats cut down those nets. However, unlike many things on my bucket list, this is contingent on factors I can't control. But here I am....this time next week I will be in The Big Easy watching my boys.

Here's to you boys! Get out there and bring home #8...and help me strike one off the bucket list. Do what you do best...Basketball!

Music Mondays...Double Header!

For today's music Monday, I have to songs for two very good reasons. First being, it's March.....and to college basketball fans this is March Madness! For us....it's the most wonderful time of the year. So, for every Monday during this month of Madness, I will have a song that is dedicated to my Kentucky Wildcats as we embark on the last leg of the Road to the Final Four!

My second selection is a hit by the Monkees. As many of you know, Davy Jones passed away this week. When, I was a little girl, I love watching reruns of The Monkees on Nickelondeon. It was my favorite show as a 5 year old. I don't think I realized at the time just how old and out of date the show actually was. So here's to Davy...

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today is Dr. Seuss' Birthday. As a preschool teacher, this was a very big day for us! We adorned Cat in the Hat hats, and nibbled on some homemade green eggs and ham! As an early childhood educator, I love Dr. Suess. He has easy to read books that not only teach math and early reading skills, but also lessons about life.

I remember right before graduating high school, a teacher read to us Oh! The Places You'll Go. At that time, I was much too young an naive to grasp the true concept of what that book was about. Now, as a real live adult, I see it's meaning. It's message to everyone young and old: That you never know where the road ahead will take you.
